Blogging again so soon. Who would have thought!
Here is my cover--I have been working on my Patriotic Book. I am happy with it--how about you?

I added gold leaf to the book title indention on my navy cover. The cover picture has two parts--the background is a design I downloaded from the Internet and the eagle is copied from one of my vintage books about our Presidents. Both are fussy cutouts. The America is from the Tim Holtz Holidays chit-chat booklet. The seam binding is from my stash. Can’t believe the red is so perfect. The seam binding is just tied around the book--it slips on and off easily.

It was a tough decision, but I am liking it--alot! I will show you more pages soon.

Still working on my plan for moving my studio. Need to buy shelves for my new area. Have been watching studio tours and wow, there are some really nice studios out there.

Well, I am back again. Seems I cannot get into a blogging groove. Life is busy and so good! I am living and loving my life. My two Grand Sweeties have brought me more joy than I can even put into words. Here is what has been happening with us.

Family Stuff

The Hiatt House is finished, well there is a checklist to work through. Coach, It-Girl, Little Miss 1, and Little Miss 2 moved in just before Christmas. We all worked hard to paint, move builder’s tools out, line shelves, clean floors, scour bathrooms, and vacuum bedrooms so that moving could commence. On December 21, the move was complete--well mostly. There was even a Christmas tree up before Christmas so that Jingle Bell the Elf could visit and Santa would have a proper place to put all the gifts. Since then our loves have made Hiatt House their Home.

Even Dirtman loves the pictures and bric-a-brac on the walls, new furniture, colorful landscaping, and growing vegetable garden. Love their new home and watching them being a family makes my heart swell with pride and joy. Coach is busy with his AD duties--so thankful he loves his job. It Girl is working hard to make their house a home. Little Miss 1 is swimming, tumbling, and being her sweet but sassy self. Little Miss 2 is growing up too fast--teething, crawling, and smiling through it all.

Studio Update

My studio is still packed with treasures--while trying to get better organized I realized that perhaps I should move to the larger part of the downstairs space and make my now studio back into a bedroom. To be really organized, you need a proper space for required tools--typewriter, iron, sewing machine, big shot, paper cutter, score board just to name a few. Yes, I need more room. More to come on the progress.

Papercrafting

Have been working on projects with my soon to be moving to Florida crafty friend. Here are a few pictures of our work. . .

Before Christmas--well a bit after too, we worked on two Christmas projects. Between working on those, I worked on a “Bookadex”.

This book was made from a Tammy Tutterow tutorial. All of the supplies were Tim Holtz goodies. There are about eight pages in this book. We followed some of the tutorial directions, but added several of our own designs on pages.

Here is my “Bookadex”. It is made from an old book named “Cherokee Blood Mary”, kinda appropriate for me. Index tabs mark sections of the alphabet and tags have important information written on them. I use this almost every day.

Another Christmas project made from a Tim Holtz small folio and following instructions from a Tammy Tutterow tutorial. the pictures don’t do it justice, it is packed with cuteness.

Our last project (at least until we FaceTime for craft day) is a Patriotic Book! We both love all things patriotic and have collected patriotic items for a long time. This project is not finished, but here is my book and some of the items I have added or will be adding.

The book is made from an old book. Love the navy blue cover, the title is under the gold leafing I added. All of the pages were removed and I added five signatures using a hidden spine with sewn in signatures. The pages are tea dyed. Can’t decide on a cover design, but I am loving the progress.

One of my favorite George Washington pages so far. The printed paper is Stampin Up Typeset designer paper and is one of the only scrapbook papers included. It is great looking when dyed.

You can see in the picture above that five signatures each with ten pages filled the book nicely. Hope it will close when I get all of my treasures in it!

We even made our own copy of the Etiquette for Stars and Stripes book. You can see how old the pages look and how some of our treasures fit right in with the old look. I still have a lot of work to do on this one.

Girlfriend Get Together

Two of my lifelong girlfriends and I took a little “Spring Break” of our own. It all happened on a whim and turned out to be a great trip. We had lunch on Tuesday and after we finished eating our yummy Mexican food, we decided that we needed to get away--so off to Kansas City we went!

Got there late afternoon, shopped Target, shopped Pottery Barn, ate at Bravo, and checked into our inexpensive digs. Wednesday we took on Nell Hill (bought my chargers), shopped IKEA (like shopping a town), lunched in the IKEA dining room (really good vegetable medallions and inexpensive), shopped Hobby Lobby, shopped JoAnn, dined at Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue (the three bones meal is enough food for a family of six). and called it a night. Thursday it was time to hit as many Home Goods stores as possible--we made it to two where we found many good buys including a few cute clothes from Marshall's--the car was full so we decided it was time to eat a Quik Trip hot dog and head home.

Housekeeping

There is always more housekeeping to do than time and desire to do it. One thing I enjoy doing for fun is setting a table for two for the season. Here is my summer table setting, yes I am on to summer.

Yes, it all about red/white/and blue, flags, and my really unhealthy vice--Coca Cola--the real thing!

The runner is a linen pin striped towel from Upscale Country, the charger is from Nell Hill (love the blue gingham check), the plate is Fiesta, the salad plate is Ralph Lauren from Home Goods, and the red covered dish is from Target. Really me! Love it!

I also am in to making pom pom garlands and paper chains--here’s what is hanging in the dining room bay window. Is it wrong to leave paper chains up year round? Need to trim the ties on the pom pom garlands, but friends say not to. I don’t know?
Cleaning Out

Oh my, my. My mind is motivated to purge, but I can’t seem to get up any steam! Do you ever look at your treasures and think you really need them, all of them. Have a storage area in our basement with holiday decorations--30 totes or so and a building with that many or more totes holding other treasures--things we are saving! I will tell you how the purging is going, but don’t hold your breath until it is finished because this is a really slow process for me. How can you love so many things you have--they are just things!

Well, that is a little bit about what is going on here.

Yes, it is the time of the year when our thoughts turn to what we have to be thankful for. I have a long list and so I feel very blessed.

It is time to start talking to LM1 about Thanksgiving and what it means. She is so sensitive to others' feelings and I know she will love to hear about the Pilgrims and their Native American friends and how they had a “party” to celebrate blessings. Will let you know how it goes.

I have been on a buying frenzy! With LM1’s birthday, Hiatt House, junking, and Christmas, I have made a dent in my “do what you want” budget! Papercrafting supplies have made a huge dent too. There are so many cute things to make--here are a few of my new treasures.

Many cute things to do with that set.

Thanksgiving will be here and the family will be here. Can’t wait to start our Family Time with a great Thanksgiving Day.

It is now January 12, 2015...oh yes, can’t believe that I did not finish this post. So for now, this is it and more soon! So much to say and show.

Birthdays, Bottles, and Babble. . .A Time To Celebrate. . .

LM1’s Third Birthday was a success--she was a little bit under the weather, but she had a good time and celebrated in her style. I am amazed that she has not eaten a bite of her birthday cakes (3 now)--at least not while the party is going on. The theme, Frozen--trampoline, UnderArmour, and AG doll, the bounty.

Nannie (Our It Girl’s Mother) also celebrated her birthday. She is also celebrating life's progression--starting a new job, living away from home during the week, and moving from her home and hometown to be close to grands. Her present was my first attempt at book art--a pumpkin. Took two books, but it was a success, I think!

LM2 is starting “school”. Yes, it doesn’t seem possible, but she is 3 months old. For several weeks now in practice for going to school, we have been working on her bottle skills. Glad to report she is doing well and taking bottles. Let’s hope she keeps up the good work!

My Grands are loquacious. LM1 is a talker--we have since she could make sounds had long conversations about her world, yes always! She still likes to tell you how it is! LM2 is a talker too--in the afternoon when she wakes up from her long nap, she likes to talk things over. She is very animated when she tells you her stories about her day. Our It Girl wonders where these little girls get their talking expertness; I just smile as I remember the rating that appeared most on my elementary school progress cards; next to “Talks Too Much” the "Most of the Time Box" was always checked.

A few of my favorite things--falling leaves, sparkling frost on the lawn, crisp air, planning for the holidays, shopping for the holidays, decorating for the holidays, and clean sheets to name just a few.

May all the seasons be sweet to you,

It has been a busy time these last months. I have been wanting to blog, but as I have seen mentioned on others' sites “Life happened at our house”. All is good. Here is the condensed version of what I have been up to---

Little Miss 2 is growing like a weed. She is doing well and is such a joy. She is “talking” to us and wants to sit up and be a part of the happenings. Our It Girl goes back to work soon so we are gearing up for that transition. Our hard work on bottle feeding has paid off and we are hopeful that LM2 will do well at school.

Little Miss 1 is three! Yes, we can’t believe it, but it is true. We celebrated her birthday with a Frozen Party. She had a fever and was not quite herself, but I think she had fun. She is going to gymnastics--the class is going well--at least the last two. She loves school and has been the best big sister ever. She calls LM2 “her baby”.

We are so blessed to have these two beautiful, healthy, smart, and adorable grands in our life.

Hiatt House (what I like to call Coach’s and Our It Girl’s new house) is coming along. Outside is complete and Dirtman has the yard in shape including new grass peeking up. Work inside is progressing. Painting upstairs is complete with cabinets and flooring to be installed soon. Downstairs is close to being painted--the den is being used as a paint booth for doors and molding but will be painted soon.

Next, packing, moving, and decorating so Hiatt House is ready for the holidays.

And then Thanksgiving!

On this 249th day of 2014, I am thinking about gratitude. Last year, 2013, was full of seasons--good and bad. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for my life and feel blessed. But just like all of us, I had challenges in 2013. But this year is good!

Here is what is happening right now in my life--

Our second granddaughter is here--our Little Miss 2! Little Miss 1 is the best! She loves her little sister and has adjusted to being a big sister well, so far. I have decided to give them nicknames even though Little Miss 1 is not too sure about it. LM1 is Chickadee because she is a like a little bird with a big song. Little Miss 2 is Cricket because she is like a little bug with a big chirp. (I know that some experts say that only male crickets chirp, but others say that strong females do too!) Life with these two beauties is joy filled! We grandparents know that Grands are like our own heart walking around. Feeling Gratitude!

Coach and Our It Girl are building a new house. we are hoping they will be in it by Christmas. Here is the progress as of a week ago. Of course, Dirtman has been “supervising” the progress. He dug the basement, built the workshop pad, dug trenches for the electricity and water lines, moved dirt for the septic system, and ensured that the “yard” is looking its best. Their home is located on 3 or so acres with a farmed field behind it, a “ creek” to the west, and a cow-filled pasture across the road. They do have a neighbor to the east, but not close. This home will be a perfect place for them to raise their family. Feeling Gratitude!

Still working on my Wilna inspired album. I keep finding new must-include embellishments! Below is a snapshot of my pages--at least what I have gathered so far. I used my Stampin Up Smoky Slate ink pad to wash the pages--they have just the right grey mottled background. The color theme is Pirouette Pink and Smoky Slate with touches of Mint Green and of course gold and silver additions such as dotted vellum, glitter frames, and Sharpie metallic gold and silver dots. The pages are layered.

For the first layer I am using book pages from a book I bought at a resale shop in Kenai, Alaska. The book is titled And the Ladies of the Club by Helen Hooven Santmyer. It is a fictional novel and a good summer read. I started tearing the pages from this in-perfect-condition-hardcover-with-dust-cover book to use in this album. Then one day I was watching Jeopardy and this book was an answer to one of the clues. That sparked my interest and I wanted to know more about it. Now I am kinda sad that I ripped pages from this book. I bought it to use in my paper crafting because it has 1,184 pages, the first page of each chapter is decorated, the color and weight of the pages are perfect for paper crafting, and it has mention of holidays and festivities that I love to celebrate-not to mention that some of the names of characters and towns are familiar too. Even though these pages make the perfect first layer, I might not have used them if I had known the history before the first rip. I used 6x6 paper from Maggie Holmes collections for the next layer and many of the embellishments are from her collections too.

Growing up with a working Mother it was common to have a Saturday schedule that included several rituals. Strip the beds, change the sheets, put on a pot of beans, and clean the house like mad. I still can’t resist the urge to strip my beds and wash sheets on Saturday. I guess there is something to be said for soaking in a Saturday night bath and then jumping into your bed to enjoy the smell and feel of clean sheets. Some habits do die hard.

So today as I finished up my Saturday rituals and was making my “army corners” on our bed, I experienced Deja Vu! Along came a memory of making my bed, but having fitted top sheets so that you did not have to make “ army corners”! I remember having fitted top sheets--am I dreaming. You know that Deja Vu experiences don’t necessarily have to be true?? Are there still such a thing? I hope so.

We did not wash our sheets on Saturday because for most of my young life my Mother preferred to go to a laundromat at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. My sweet Dad tried for years to buy her a washer and dryer, but she refused. She liked getting all the laundry done at once and having all of the washers and dryers to herself. No one else would be there at that time of day for sure. There was an ulterior motive--she loved to look through all of the coins--pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters, and half dollars (she had an in with the owner of the place) so she could fill coin books for us. But that is another story.
I will be using several cool techniques in this project--applying modeling paste with stencils, filling the frame on the cover with resin, enhancing pages with watercolor elements, layering papers and embellishments, as well as spraying gold paint to create shiny backgrounds papers for some of the pages. Michael’s $1 frames make great covers and a sweet concertina is the perfect binding. Eight pages with delicate grey and pink papers and embellishments along with sweet pictures will make it a favorite.
Now on to the cabinet--it is a cool piece of furniture. I decided to paint it! Color choice is Annie Sloan French Linen with clear wax. I cleaned it well and it is ready to paint. But of course, I waited until it is too humid to paint it outside. I could move it to the garage or Dirtman’s shop where I can enjoy air conditioning, but that would be too easy. So I moved it to the studio. I did not want to paint it in place, but that is the new plan.

The work has begun. The carpet is in place (needs one more thing) and organizing is in progress.

Project 1 is to clean out and organize the closet space. Check!

The closet is cleared and organized. It is full of plastic storage cabinets--I don’t like the way they look but my supplies are organized and easily accessible. I have some great tools and supplies I had forgotten about. As soon as the carpet installation is complete (soon I hope) I will be ready for the next project.

Project 2 will be to move my storage cabinet in and clean it. Maybe even paint it??? Can’t make up my mind about that. I bought Annie Sloan paint to use. The story about this cabinet is interesting. Many years ago a friend bought the cabinet--it was advertised on a local radio “tradeo” broadcast. She brought it home and when I saw it I loved it. I told her that if she ever decided to get rid of it, I wanted it. Well, she got rid of it at a sale in spring, 2013. I was not there but lucky for me a good friend was. Good friend purchased the cabinet--she did not know it was “my” cabinet. Her plan was to take it to a flea market. Well, as life would have it, she told C (remember her from my It’s a Girl Thing--A Girlfriend Thing post) about her wonderful purchase and the plan, C told me about the cabinet--she did not know it was “my” cabinet either but I knew immediately it was “my” cabinet. I got it! Yay! Friend called to apologize--she had forgotten about my request, after all, it was 20+ years ago. Isn’t it amazing how things work out.

Project 3 will be to decorate my space. I need a television and some of my favorite patriotic things in my space. it will be fun to put everything in its proper place.

Once all of these projects are accomplished, it is time to create! Let the fun begin. More soon.

May all the seasons be sweet to you,
Updates and The Old College Try To Be A Real Blogger!A Season To Get Back To It. . .

Yes, I know I said that before. But let’s not dwell on that, okay? I for one am glad 2013 is over.

A few updates. . .

1. My Bingo Fridays post is on my mind again today. My sister called this morning to say that she is driving by the our Saba Grotto everyday--really two times a day. That sparked a new interest in finding out more about that childhood palace--a place where I spent many happy hours. Here is what I found out today--this mansion, as it was called in the listing, was sold for taxes by the IRS in 2008. Just about the time I was retiring, this landmark that made such an impression on the young me was being auctioned off. I guess it sold--my sister says it looks much better now than the last time we drove by. Here is a picture of it--don’t know when this was taken but this is pretty much how I remember it.
Have you looked for online tutorial and “haul” videos? Can you believe that paper crafters record supplies they buy so we can see them and then rush to the store to get them too? If you have the urge to shop and don’t want to spend money--just watch them describe what they bought. Hee! Watching these videos lead to the development of my obsession with Target $1 Spots. Yes, it is crazy! Here is the latest project--a bird themed frame.

I have a basement full of treasures (organized of course) in totes. I have stacks of treasures on my desk. I have half-finished, almost-finished, and finished projects on my desk and tucked ever so carefully in totes. It is a mess--I don’t admit that to Dirtman, but I can tell you because you all will not judge me. Here is a picture of my desk--organized stacks? The robins are chirping, the trees are budding, and the plants and flowers are peeking through the ground. Oh yes, we are "springing forward" tonight.

Spring is full of pleasant surprises. Last year I bought four white hyacinths for my Easter/Spring decor. I love the beauty and smell of these hardy yet delicate flowers. My plan of course was to plant them around my front door as soon as Fall dawned, but the best plans of Mary. Instead, I plopped them on the copper boot tray under the bench in the laundry room. Forgot all about them really.

When I saw hyacinths in the stores this year, I bought two--white of course. I put them in my white ceramic pots and placed them in my kitchen window.
About a week ago, I was cleaning in the laundry room and much to my delight, there they were--four hyacinths peeking out of the soil in their crude black plastic pots. I made a resolution to blog more this year and I am off to a slow start--must get with it for sure.

Some things I like. . .

There are several blogs I read regularly. So much time can be spent engrossed while reading unique and helpful information, delighting over remarkable inspiration, and planning what to do with the information overload you have just enjoyed. I love looking at blogs and implementing some of the best ideas. I sometimes wonder if I ever have a new idea--are all of my plans based on projects others think up and complete? Oh well, it is fun!

1. Ceiling Fan Fun--The Best Ceiling Fan Update. This idea is splendid! Here are my two projects.

Our Bedroom

You know how one thing leads to another--now our fan needs to be painted. I am in the process of painting our bedroom and onsuite. Now I want to paint the fan the same color as the walls--conundrum!

Our Kitchen

This fan had a single schoolhouse type light. It needed a bulb clip-on attachment. Works like a dream. I know that most if not all of the decorating gurus say that ceiling fans are "out", but they do not live in Kansas where the hot wind comes sweeping down the plain!

2. At Christmas time I always want to add new bric-a-brac to my collection. Many blogs feature projects that change regular dollar store treasures into spectacular upscale treasures. This is a $3 nativity--I think it looks much more expensive than that.

The weather has been brutal--hot, dry, and windy. But--that is how it is and all that will change--at least I hope so.

Started this blog in the summer--it is now November. In fact, it is Thanksgiving Day. Hope you are having a grateful Thanksgiving. Dirtman and I are spending the day taking it easy. That is strange--but that is how it is. Let the Thankful Declarations begin. We have much to be thankful for.

Our "mintage" turkey is in place. Our dinner is in the crock pot. Yes, we are not having turkey. Dirtman is not a fan so we are having homemade meatballs (in cranberry sauce), potatoes, salad, bread, and pecan pie. I actually made a pecan pie--first in years. Here are a few pictures of the day.
When I started my blog, I had the best of intentions. I thought that blogging would be fun (it is) and something I would enjoy (I do). Little did I know that it would be difficult to keep up with. But, enough whining. . .

Here we go with one more try to be a good blogger. The inspiration came today while I was perusing A 2011 Christmas Tour--the blog has hundreds of links listed. These links take you to blogs that tout Christmas decorations. So here we go. To keep with the theme of my blog hopping, here are a few pictures of my Christmas House.
Now you can share all your "likes" and great ideas with everyone instead of just a few. We have shared a lot over our many years of friendship including growing up in Oklahoma, college, teaching, marriage, motherhood, charm bracelets, crafts, shopping, friends and flags. I too want to share your love for Life:Beautiful magazine, but I never get mine read - sigh - maybe someday. Hopefully we will have many more years of friendship and fun things to share.

Well, well, well, I cannot believe that Christmas came and went, January is gone too, and February is gone, March is gone, and April is on the downhill slide--where has the time gone. My best efforts to keep up with this blog are not enough. It was March 3, 2012, when I started this post, two months have passed, and this is my first blog of the new year. Oh well, you can't change what has happened, right?

A few notes on how my time has been spent. . .

One of the pleasures nowadays is spending time with our little girl--our first grandchild. I like to call her Little Miss. She is the sweetest, cutest, and smartest little girl ever (sound like a grandmother?). She was four months old when I started this post and she is about all I can think about. Coach has been busy coaching basketball and just last Tuesday (February 21) his team won their conference--they were even undefeated in the conference. They made it to the finals for their regional substate. Such a pleasure to watch our son doing something he loves so much and to share his celebration this year.

This week (we are talking March here) I have taken a few minutes here and there to peruse some magazines--love magazines and made a vow to stop buying so many. You might remember that the only magazine I subscribe to is Life Beautiful, but I am rekindling my like affair with Country Living. At one time, I had every Country Living magazine from 1975 to 2000 stashed in numerous places in my house. Dirtman thought I should stop hoarding things so I painstakingly looked through each magazine to tear out all articles of interest. I saved the Valentine's, Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas issues--so I still have a few stashed. The articles of interest are organized in several notebooks--I love looking through them from time to time. In the March (page 32) issue the fresh picks: 24 fantastic finds--starting at just $3.99--that give tradition a welcome twist feature includes a state cookie cutter--Massachusetts handmade in the copper shop of one of my best friends.

Another interesting find from the current Flea Market Style magazine is in the Best Vintage Sales from Coast to Coast listings. There are two cool vintage shops listed--Liberty Belle and Good Ju Ju. These shops are in the historic part of Kansas City. Need to visit these two shops soon. Well, it is April and I have not been there--still planning.

In the Wreath Junkie post I mentioned my Peeps wreath--did not have a picture of it and promised to post it this year when the wreath was hanging in my laundry room. Well, here it is. This wreath was made last year, stored in a plastic hat box in my treasure trove basement stash, and it still looks good. The Peeps are hard as bricks, but that is okay (good really) so nobody wants to eat them.

For most of my early girlhood I spent every Friday night at a club that my parents belonged to. The club was a service oriented organization that supported a number of activities. It was nationally affiliated and my parents were leaders during most of their membership in the club--Dad as an officer and eventually Monarch of the men's group and my mom as an officer and drill team member of the women's group, the Sabettes.

I remember being ready as soon as they got home from work on Fridays to make a trip to May's Cafe for burgers and fries and then head off to the Saba Grotto to play bingo. Often my parents worked instead of playing--calling numbers, running winning bingo cards to the front to be authenticated, paying winners, popping popcorn and serving beverages in the concession stand, or walking among the players to give assistance as needed.

On a few ocassions, my mom would play--she would buy cards--sometimes eight or more. She spent the evening sliding the red covers on the cards over the called numbers. The games were varied--straight bingo, picture frame, two bingos, postage stamp, and blackout to name the ones I can remember. Her fingers would get tender from all the sliding so she would use a half-dollar to push the covers. I liked to play too--about two cards were all I could handle, but my mom was patient with me and always took over when I decided that playing with the kids and running wild would be more fun. You see, these were the days when children could be safe playing out of their parents' sights. We had free reign of the three story building. We played tag, hide and seek, red rover-red rover, mother may I, and other rowdy games. We played on the stairs without supervision and took care of our needs. My sister and I would get one dollar to spend as we saw fit at the concession stand--that would last us all night and many times I had money to bank when I got home. If we weren't running we watched tv--my sister watched Flintstones before she was ready to play--she never missed an episode.

I have good memories of Bingo Night at the Saba Grotto. Recently my sister and I went on a quest to find the house that for years we explored every Friday night. I remembered the street name and so we headed out to see if we could find the grand old house. My sister spotted the roof when we were several blocks away--we spent quite awhile manuevering one-way streets, a freeway, and unfamiliar areas before we found it. Of course it does not look at all the same--it is a private residence now. I wish I had a picture of the house in the good old days to show you, but I have searched the web and exhausted every option I can think of. Great childhood memories were made at the Saba Grotto!

The seasons are changing--Winter is upon us and so we are wearing heavy clothes, eating soup, and cuddling up next to the fire. For me, the Winter Holidays can't come soon enough--can't wait to spend time with my son and his family. We are hanging a new stocking this year--a pink one!

Likes--reading the Jones Design Company and other inspiring blogs, chatting with my HS BFFs over last weekend, watching Coach coach basketball, hugging my cute grandaughter, and decorating for Christmas (finally--about time isn't it!)

May all the seasons be sweet to you,

Welcoming H Pumpkins

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Before Autumn leaves us for good, I thought I better post this blog. Autumn is maybe my favorite season. I like decorating my porches and home with pumpkins, cornucopias, apples, and mums. I like collecting and preserving fallen leaves. I like smelling the sweet Autumn crispness in the air, hearing the crunch of fallen leaves under foot, and making lists of all of the things I have to be thankful for. I like gathering with family and friends. Here's more on a couple of things I like about Autumn...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Do you remember buying school supplies and organizing them so you would be ready for the first day of school. I guess I was destined to be a teacher because getting ready for school to start has always been a tradition in my life. Even now that I am retired, I find myself browsing through the isles of school supplies and thinking about buying a few things. One of my favorite places to browse all year long is an office supply shop--so many possibilities! Well, just one of the little things in life that brings me pleasure and its free--if I can refrain from buying.

Decorating with fall adornments is another pleasurable Autumn activity. Having a great looking table is essential during this festive time of year--like this one from Celebrating Home a Seasons of Cannon Falls publication.

This finery serves as a backdrop in a thankful home where family and friends will soon be welcomed and timeless traditions will be shared.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The decorations can be less splendid and still provide a fine backdrop. Here is one of our simple, vintage table decorations--Dirtman cut him from wood and I painted him--circa 1985. He is surrounded with leaves from our yard and acorns from It Girl's parents' home.

Several years ago at a wonderful craft affair, War Eagle Craft Fair, I purchased a tree--at least I call it a tree even if others seem to be unappreciative of its charm and chicness (yes I know it is an inanimate object). Any who, I have decorated my tree for the seasons since I brought it home--it has been adored with Halloween, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, Valentine's, and Easter baubles, trinkets, and trims not to mention times when it served as my second Christmas Tree. I just like it!!!

My tree is made from a real pine tree--of course the branches are cut short and there are artificial branches stuck into its trunk. It stands on an ugly brown piece of wood that makes it heavy. I remember transporting it home in a best friend's car--we always had some treasure to make room for--we became masters of finding a way to pack in, hold, straddle, or sit on our finds all the way home.

My Thanksgiving Tree is decorated with homemade Thanksgiving buckets, wool pumpkins, glittered turkey ornaments, antique candles in holders, strings of cranberry garland, brown glass garland, and a paper turkey roosted on top. Just look at this tree--what is not to like?

Several weeks ago a dear one pointed out to me that I had promised a September blog...did someone say it is November! I have been silent--at least on my blog. I love to blog, but it is more difficult than I thought it would be. But, once more I am going to try to be a better blogger.

Here are a few of my random thoughts--just to get the blog going.

Life--life is a wonderful journey. I have a blessed life. In October, Dirtman was home for over two weeks now and we enjoyed toiling at the chores that being homeowners bring. When he got home I had a honey-do list for him and of course he had his own list of things to do too. He worked long and hard on both lists and it has paid off. We have not changed anything big, but our home is looking like we want it to. Don't get the wrong idea, there is still a long list of Must Dos and Want To Dos.

Liberty--the priviledge of doing what you want when you are retired. Yes, Dirtman is ocassionally saying things like, "don't you think you would like to work a little?" and "you need something to do", wow--does he think I am having too much fun? Well, he is right. I love my life and am so grateful for what I have. However, I think I will work a little come Spring--oh my!

The Pursuit of Happiness--well, a grandbaby will take care of that--I have been in pursuit of this happiness for years and all my dreams recently came true. We are blessed with a baby girl--Amelia. I am head over heels in love with this kid--holding and giving her love brings all the happiness I need. We had our Kansas shower in October (good grief)--here are a few photos. . .
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It was a great day--fun had by all and the gifts were awesome. Now our bundle of joy is here and is almost three weeks old--life is good!

Another list of my likes--pink, pinterest, searching for vintage dress-up clothes--it's never too soon to get ready for tea parties and dressing up, and making a Christmas gift list.

May all the seasons be good to you

Blogging

To Do:

Keep blog up-to-date--dedicate time to creating and promoting my blog.

Well, well, well--time will tell--four blogs in four month--sigh.

<span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Pinning

I don't know if you are familar with pinterest.com but if not, you need to check it out. Of course if you don't have hours to devote to searching, pinning, repinning, following, and commenting maybe you should read no farther. I learned about pinterest.com when I was reading a blog, Jones Design Company. I refrained from checking it out for a couple of days, but when I finally arrived on the site, I was immediately hooked. Since then one of my besties and her creative daughter are pinning too.

One of my favorite things to do has always been to search, clip, save, organize, and comment on things I want to create, buy, or dream about. For years I have been saving pictures, articles, and instructions for all things interesting. Now, I don't have to fill bulletin boards, notebooks, journals, or my hard drive with clippings or files of acourtements that bring joy to my life--I can use my digital boards on pinterest.com. I think I am happy about that.

Scrapbooking

My summer project has been to begin work on a "Life Journal" for my Grands. Good progress so far and remember this is a long-term project. There will be two volumes--one with stories, notes, and the best advice a grandparent can give and the second with pictures and momentos to complement the stories, notes, and best advice. I promise a spread on the progress in September. Most of you know that I have lots of advice to give.

Try pinterest.com and let me know what you think. Likes pink princess phones, planning, big diamond rings, pandora bracelets, details, thrifting, upholstered benches for dining room tables, and kindles.

May all seasons be sweet to you,

There was this one time (who am I trying to bamboozle--I have created many wreaths throughout the years) that I was inspired to make wreaths...well, first a snippet of background information...I have always liked wreaths so I bought wreaths, was given wreaths, or handcrafted wreaths over the years, and even own several books on the subject of making wreaths---Martha Stewart's, Great American Wreaths that shows a wreath based on some token pertaining to every state in the union and Country Living's, Handmade Wreaths: Decorating Throughout the Year that uses home grown and found in nature items to create wreaths for every season of the year--just to name two. I have four totes and three large boxes of wreaths in my array of accouterments that take up part of my basement--the part that houses my treasures!

Last winter I was watching MS and one of her employees was demonstrating how to use coffee filters to make some pretty cute wreaths. She had made them to sell at a craft bazaar that happens at MS each year. My wreath-making passion was awakened and I decided that I had to give it a try--well, I made one and it was pretty nice, I was amazed how inexpensive white coffee filters took on another persona as they were folded, glued, fluffed, and glittered or painted. Well, that was the beginning--I made another a bit smaller and it was perfect! I was even more excited about the wreaths after my sister (who sometimes does not appreciate my creations) commented that mine was neat and that she wanted one. And so began my mini, several month obsession with coffee filter wreaths--an obsession that lasted from Thanksgiving to Valentines' Day. Sooo, I made wreaths for It Girl, my sister, my niece, my two twin "mary god daughters", and even helped MPS make one for her sweet mom and Grandma C. My wreath count was up to twelve including the ones I made for myself, but who was counting. I learned alot about coffee filters during this wreath making obsession--not really important. My white glittered round wreath or my red glittered heart wreath hung on my utility room door for more than two months and still looked good when I carefully stowed them in a tote. I love these wreaths even though they left glitter remains all over my utility room. Wish my camera upload cable would work so I could post pictures of my wreaths--I will post pictures when I hang them again.

From coffee filter wreaths I went on to Peeps wreaths. Yes, I saw the idea in a Phyllis Hoffman Celebrate magazine and had to have one. Since I was on a "let's make wreaths" binge, I made one. Mine was made with yellow rabbits--it was cute! I think one that uses all colors of Peeps would be really cute too. Again, the picture is on my camera that does not have a working upload cable--ugh! I will post pictures.

Wreaths are made from material, tulle, and/or ribbons that are wrapped, gathered, or tied on. They are adorned with pearls, Christmas balls, buttons, decorated styrofoam balls, candy, popcorn not to mention items from nature such as flowers (real, silk, dried, or paper), seeds, twigs, and leaves. Here are a few examples of some pretty cute wreaths that I like...
